Sometimes you want to merge two accounts together that are linked through Plaid. For example, with the TD Ameritrade to Schwab merger.... you want to keep the history of the TD account, but need to relink that same account to Schwab now.
In order to do this, you can't have two live-linked connections. You need to break one of the live connections. In this case, since TD Ameritrade is no longer needed you'll want to break that connection. To do this (note, you'll have to be on the mobile app to do this):
- Click on the profile circle in the top left corner of the screen
- Click on connected accounts
- Click TD Ameritrade
- Click Remove institution
To note, removing the connection does not delete the history.
Once the institution is removed, you can merge the TD and Schwab accounts together. To merge the accounts together:
- Click the account you want to remain. This should be the connected live account.
- Click the three dots on the top right of the mobile app
- Click merge
- Choose the appropriate account from the list.
